Focus
Indonesian Community Empowerment (ICE) Journal is a premier, peer-reviewed platform dedicated to advancing the science and practice of transformative community engagement and service. We publish innovative, high-impact research that provides evidence-based, bottom-up solutions to pressing global challenges, with a particular focus on bridging the gap between theory and tangible, sustainable outcomes. Our scope is intentionally transdisciplinary, welcoming rigorous scholarship that illuminates the mechanisms of effective community empowerment.
Scope
We are particularly interested in manuscripts that explore:
The Co-production of Knowledge: Groundbreaking studies that detail the synergistic integration of indigenous knowledge systems and local wisdom (Kearifan Lokal) with scientific paradigms to create culturally congruent and sustainable solutions in diverse fields, including climate adaptation, environmental management, and community mental health.
Innovative Capacity-Building Models: The design, implementation, and rigorous evaluation of empowerment strategies such as 'Train-the-Trainer' (TtT) and task-shifting models. We seek research that empowers local actors—including educators, community health volunteers (Kader), and local leaders—to build self-perpetuating ecosystems of support and expertise.
Digital Empowerment for Inclusive Growth: Critical investigations into how digital transformation can act as a catalyst for community resilience and economic prosperity. This includes studies on enhancing digital literacy for rural entrepreneurship, as well as the use of accessible, web-based platforms for scalable training and equitable service delivery in resource-constrained settings.
Evidence-Based Community Interventions: The application of robust research methodologies—from participatory action research and mixed-methods designs to quasi-experimental and cluster-randomized controlled trials—to assess the real-world impact of community service programs on measurable outcomes such as resilience, health literacy, stigma reduction, and economic performance.
Ultimately, the ICE Journal aims to curate a collection of transformative scholarship that provides an actionable evidence base for policymakers, practitioners, and community leaders. We prioritize work that demonstrates a clear pathway from intervention to impact, directly contributing to the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by placing empowered communities at the very heart of the solution.
